Now you can still pay your school and your lender. Simply contact your school and ask for an explanation of the charges. I am sure they will tell you what. It could only be fined or be slightly smaller.

Only a few positions as teachers or doctors in underserved areas. Otherwise you can on your own and if you do not pay, the government has started the right (and) to your salary, without going to court (it is in your employment contract attached).

I want to get married in February 26 2011. In order to attend fall semester at Western IL University www.wiu.edu (if you want more info), the deadline is Feb. 1st….and the course only starts in the fall only. If I don’t go 2011, I have to wait until 2012. I am 25 years old and would like to get my master’s around my 30th birthday, and I will be 26 if I attend when I want to attend.
I would have to drive an hour and a half to and from if I want to still live here. The town this college is in is a really small town with hardly any businesses and the closest city is an hour and a half a way so I’m thinking I will just stay up here and work parttime and drive down there and attend school fulltime.
Here’s the issue….My fiance and I both have car loans…that are not to be paid off…mine until 2013…his until 2014 or 2015. Combined income is 50,000 a year…we both currently work full time.
Rent is 525 a month including water and garbage.
Utilities usually 50-100 dollars a month.
Cable (including internet and DVR) is 140 something a month (I’m willing to cut on that)
We still have to pay for our wedding, and then we also want to honeymoon to Hawaii next summer.
How can we afford this? How can I afford rent in the apartment while going to school? I’m highly interested in the Stafford loan.
Thank you for your help!

Student Loans – I have money in the stock market but some student loans – should I pay off my student loans now?

Question about I have money in the stock market but some student loans – should I pay off my student loans now :
I have roughly 5,000$ in the stock market and have around $7,000 in student loans at 8.9%, I am still a student and the loans are deferred until May of 2011. Should I take the money out of the market and pay off my student loans, leave it in stocks, or move the money into a roth IRA.

Answer about I have money in the stock market but some student loans - should I pay off my student loans now :
The deferral date is irrelevant. And thinking in terms of offsetting your 8.9% interest rate makes limited sense.

What you’re doing is treating $7,000 you don’t own as though it’s your own collateral to finance a high risk stock market capitalization. That is very uncool and unsmart.

You’re trading $7K sure debt for money in a very high risk environment.

Try it this way as I’m really hoping to show you a few views so you can make the best choice for yourself:

You have about two thirds of your ed debt in ready cash that could pay off most of the outstanding loan. You are not only risking immediate payback of much of it in the shaky stock market, you could lose your cushion yet still owe the $7K.

That’s a zero sum game—unless you can guarantee risk-free earnings in excess of the 8.9% interest.

I do this for a living and notwithstanding, I’ve been liquidating market investments because I see a market swoon in mid-January and continuing well past Feb. Not meant as a boast but I’ve been right in calling corrections a number of times. I usually underestimate the severity of the correction. This time I’m not taking chances and have reduced margin (borrowed $) exposure over th past year from $230K down to $13K and still reducing nearly daily.

It’s a good idea to be very conservative when things are so unsettled. And they are!

original here.
