6 Aug 2010i do have a job but the employer cut my salary and reduced my hours severely. Made me a part timer from full timer and then cut all my benefits too. Due to this unexpected hardship, i am only able to pay mortgage, car payment, electric/water, and food. I am not able to pay credit card bills, bank loans, cable tv, and car insurance. So I’m refusing to pay any kind of unsecured debt like credit card and bank loans. I don’t care if my credit goes bad. I know there is no jail for unpaid bill and this is all employer’s fault. i have already disconnected my phone line because in few days time i expect phone call after phone call from creditors and collection agencies. I have withdrawn all money from bank and keep cash in home.
This is site about loans reference and information question..

you shouldn’t have got rid of your phone line you need that. You can just tell them to not call you anymore & by law they have to stop callling you. you should keep track of your bills & go apply for food stamps & pay your car insurance with the money you would use for food.
I don’t think anything is going to happen. Do you realize how many people are in the same boat. It has nothing to do with Obama. The money in our country went to the top people & the rest were robbed when Bush was in office & this started happening a long time ago.
More people went on food stamps when Bush was in office than ever in history.
You seem to know a lot about what happens & have prepared but that is all I can tell you about it. You are not alone at this time which I guess is a good thing.

Having something of a similar situation, I sympathize with your situation. While it’s easy to blame the whole mess on your employer, that generally isn’t really the underlying problem and is just a way to lay the blame somewhere else. I know, I felt the same way until I looked at the situation rationally.
First of all, you’re right. There is no debtors prison, so jail time is out of the question. And you’re also right that your credit rating will take a hit. Refusing to pay the unsecured debt does have a certain appeal, but you should be prepared for the consequences. Chances are, if you ignore the creditors long enough, your accounts will be turned over to debt collectors. And if the amounts are worth the trouble, and you ignore them long enough, chances are good that a lawsuit(s) will be filed. If you can not persuade the court to accept that it is all your employer’s fault, chances are that there will be a judgment against you. Giving the creditors to the power to garnish your wages, and perhaps place a lien against your property. Again, this may not be the end of the world if you are prepared and willing to deal with these outcomes.
If I were you, I’d contact these creditors before it gets to this. MAYBE they will be willing to work with you? Maybe not. If not, then check into credit counseling. Research these agencies first, as many are not your friends. Check with your states BBB or Attorney General for recommendations.
In addition, you might also check in to bankruptcy. Like you said, your credit rating is going to hell anyway. And almost any course of action other than paying them off is going to affect your rating negatively.
One last thought. Not much fun of course, but a part-time job is perhaps a possibility. ?

Creditors can take you to court and sue you for your unpaid balances. You can have your pay checks garnished. I would communicate with them and let them know your circumstances and see if you can work out a new payment arrangement. Ignoring the situation will catch up to you. good luck.
